Sheffield Action on Plastic exists to make a difference in the Sheffield community and reduce single-use plastics and plastic pollution.
Just because Blue Planet 2 was over five years ago, doesn’t mean the issue of single-use plastic and plastic pollution has gone away.

• Up to 12 million tonnes of plastic is entering our oceans every year
• 100,000 marine mammals and turtles and 1 million sea birds are killed by plastic pollution annually
• Plastic production is expected to double over the next 20 years, and nearly quadruple by 2050
• 4–8% of the world’s oil production is used to make plastics and experts reckon that plastic production will account for 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 if consumption trends continue

From June 2023 to June 2024 Sheffield Action on Plastic have:

• prevented around 1,500 disposable cups being thrown away, with the hire of reusable cups
• engaged with over 50 businesses to help them reduce their single-use plastic, whether that’s to help them with the single-use plastic ban, or sign up to a Reusable Coffee Cup Scheme
• received sponsorship from TravelMaster and Gripple to organise Plastic Free Markets helping the public to reduce their own single-use plastic
• been nominated Best Sustainable Business of the Year at the UnLTD Business Awards

Sheffield Action on Plastic is a 100% voluntary organisation and relies on donations and grants. Sheffield Action on Plastic wishes to build a strong community of people committed to action, through its membership scheme. Through membership donations, members will:

• be invited to meetings to give their views on the work we are doing (though only Trustees will be able to vote on decisions)
• be invited to social events to meet like minded people
• know that their money is directly benefiting local action on plastic
