  • Just over half of the UK population, or 51%, drink bottled water once a week or more.
  • 7.7 billion plastic bottles are bought across the UK each year, resulting in substantial amounts of single-use plastic waste.
  • Research has found that more than 90% of bottled water brands contains microplastics – an average of 240,000 particles of plastic in each litre of bottled water, 90 percent of which were nanoplastics – this is 10 to 100 times larger than previous estimates
  • Single-use PET plastic water bottles take 400 years to decompose.

Sheffield Action on Plastic are calling on Sheffield City Council to install maintain and signpost drinking water refill stations in Sheffield to enable people to quench their thirst in a healthy and sustainable way
