There can be an assumption that it is expensive to reduce single-use plastics / going zero waste. Here are a number of ways you can save money and single-use plastics at the same time:
- Buy a reusable water bottle and refill at water stations around Sheffield. Download the Refill app and find locations where you can refill your water bottle for free
- Buy a reusable coffee cup and take it to cafes when you want a takeaway. A lot of places offer discount if you bring your own coffee cup. Again use the Refill app to find those places
- Bring your own bag – you won’t have to pay for one!
- Buy a soap bar, from somewhere like The Bare Alternative or Sheffield Skincare Company. Soap bars last longer than liquid options so you buy less over time.
- Reusable face scrubbies for makeup – avoid having to continuously buy disposable make up remover pads and buy reusable face scrubbies instead. Simply wash and reuse. You can even make your own out of spare or old cotton items like t-shirts or pillowcases.
- Buy menstrual cups for periods. You can reuse them again and again and again
- Buy a safety razor. You can save lots of money on continuously buying disposable ones.
