Thanks to Loadhog and Swag Box, Sheffield Action on Plastic now have reusable pint cups and wine goblets available for groups and events to hire for use at their functions/events. The cups meet all catering regulations including being CE-marked for a variety of poured drinks. We also have reusable coffee cups, thanks to Delete Cups.

Whether your event is large or small, using a reusable cup will help reduce single use plastic waste, helping the planet and making your event a bit more sustainable.

Sheffield Action on Plastic will supply, wash and dry the cups ready to be used again another day.

Methods for using reusable at your event

There are multiple methods for using your cups:

No charge to the customer
You can raise the price of drinks to absorb the price of replacing cups. No hassle, but then you may lose some cups due to customers not putting a price on the cups, and not able to get some money back in exchange for bringing a cup back.

Levy
This is a one off fee charged to customers when they first order a drink, which gives them their cup. We recommend this to be £1 – £2. Customers don’t have to pay this again when they want another drink. Some venues like Peddler even offer discount when you come to the bar with your reusable cup, so consider this too. You may lose some cups due to customers not putting a price on the cups, and not able to get some money back in exchange for bringing a cup back.

Deposit return
This is a deposit scheme where customers are charged for the hire of the cup but are then given their deposit back when they’ve finished with their cup and bring it back. We recommend you charge customers £1 – £2 for the use of the cup, which is then given back to the customer when they return their cup. Bear in mind that if you use a card machine on the bar, then this has a transaction fee and so if you refund people in coins, you will lose money from that transaction fee. Later in 2024, Sheffield Action on Plastic can provide you with a simple deposit return scheme that doesn’t require queuing to give people their money back!

Ideally we would prefer for you to collect and drop off the cups from us, because we are a volunteer run group and have limited volunteer capacity to drop off and collect cups.

We are seeking further business sponsors to widen the scheme to other cups such as half pint cups, gin goblets, and champagne flutes.

In return, participating businesses can receive publicity and exposure of their business on our digital and physical cup hire flyer, on our social media, and in press releases.
